"Sam" is the bird at the center of several pictures of ours.

I think you may be correct.... here's a page I found...

It shows a Great White Heron, and tells how to tell the difference: The GWH has a two tone beak and pale legs. "Sam" seems to have a mostly uniform beak, and orangier legs.

I'm SUCH an ornithologist..... Rolling Eyes
