Week 16: Ending March 2, 2003
Monday:
Off to San Diego and Tijuana! In search of green grass and trees, Joan chooses Oak Creek RV Resort in El Cajon, about 23 miles east of San Diego and about 135 miles from Hesperia. Very long, bumpy, windy miles. New England’s cold is haunting us again! When we finally arrived at Oak Creek, we asked what happened to sunny Southern California. The manager replied that it was to be unseasonably cold all this week. Last week it had been in the high 70s! Of course!
We check out a nearby mall for a quick bite to eat and to window shop.
Tuesday:
The New England weather curse has followed us again. It started raining last night and continues all day today, often pouring. We snuggle inside the motorhome. It continues to rain throughout the night.
Wednesday:
The rain finally stops late morning and we depart for Tijuana.
Thursday:
Rain. Drive to Pismo Beach. 320 miles 7 ½ hours. Pismo Coast RV Resort.
Friday:
Wonderful sunshine. Beautiful campground. Pismo Caost is one of the few so-called resorts we have encountered that truly is a resort. Nice grassy sites, many with trees, lots of amenities and, best of all, located right alongside the state beach. Walk along Pismo Beach. Breakfast at a Hawaiian deli. Arroyo Village window shopping. Walk around North Beach, winter home for thousands of Monarch butterflies among the eucalyptus groves. Dinner at Rock & Roll Diner.
Saturday:
We didn’t see any Monarch butterflies at the eucalyptus groves yesterday, but a large Monarch fluttered by our campsite this morning to say hello! Campfire and steak cookout.
Sunday:
Household chores. Checked out downtown Pismo Beach and kite store. Bought a new stunt kite. Dinner at corporate Marie Callendar’s restaurant. Nice soup and salad bar. Walked along the pier at night and window shopped. |
