Week 22: Ending April 13, 2003

Monday:
We drive about 240 miles and pull into a WalMart in Winchester, VA for the night. An uneventful day of driving.

Tuesday:
As we are driving along I-81 in Pennsylvania, Joan notices a large billboard for Dutch Kitchen in Frackville. Simultaneously, she sees Frackville listed in Roadfood. We call the restaurant to confirm they can accommodate a 40 foot+ motorhome in their parking lot. They can. We enjoy a home-cooked meal, Penn Dutch-style, surrounded by country and Americana crafts for sale. Revived and rested, we hit the road again until we pull into the Riverside Camp, Milford, PA.

Wednesday:
Home Sweet Home, back in Southborough, late Wednesday night.

Thursday:
We spend the day touring our backyard, surveying the damage from the hard winter and cleaning up.

Friday:
Off to Quincy, MA to pickup Ron’s parents and travel to Vermont. Our nephew Greg is starring in his high school musical “Once upon a Mattress.” Greg is a senior, so this will be his last performance at the school.
We arrive in Northfield by late afternoon and plug the motorhome into Sandra and Rick’s house (Ron’s sister). The running joke about the facilities provided by this “campsite” is the free cable TV access provided. Ron simply has to position the motorhome TV antenna just so under the cable wire running to the house!

Saturday:
The whole family attends Greg’s last performance. Of course, he is terrific, as is the entire crew. Afterwards, we all enjoy an early dinner at the Wayside Restaurant in Berlin. This is a family favorite and local hangout, made all the more popular by its inclusion in the books Roadfood and Eating Across the USA by the Sterns.

Sunday:
A relaxing day in Vermont.
